Vivid 2019 - Lifestyle

Keeping Us Outdoors This Winter

Each year, Sydney becomes a canvas for brilliant light installations and projections. Vivid Sydney attracts more than 2.3 million visitors and sees historic sights – including the Sydney Opera House, Customs House and Taronga Zoo Sydney – illuminated in brilliant colour. The program also includes big-ticket music performances, creative conferences, talks, and workshops.

The attraction of the show brings so many people out in to the Winter's night despite the cold. And there's something to see for everyone! Here are our top picks for must-sees events at Vivid:

Lights - The Dancing Grass

Royal Botanic Garden Sydney

Dancing Grass supersizes 146 illuminated ‘blades’ of grass to five different heights ranging from 1.5m to 4.5m tall so that visitors can wander through a tactile green forest. Each one is touch sensitive and moves with the breeze. Hug them. Dance between them. Sit and watch them sway.

Lights - Regal Peacock

Circular Quay

This Regal Peacock is a kinetic light sculpture that celebrates this unique and majestic bird, embodying the mystique and curiosity held around its species. Using kinetic mechanics, the bird playfully interacts with its audience through sound, movement and light animations. Hand illustrated graphics of the peacock’s eye-catching plumage clad his body and tail.
